5 Myths About CBD Debunked

Just like every other trend, CBD is surrounded by a swirl of myths and rumors. CBD is something that today’s consumers are very interested in, with many of those consumers being VEGAMOUR fans as well. Since we’ve recently launched our own CBD products, we wanted to help you better understand fact from fiction when it comes to cannabinoids. We’re setting the record straight on five common myths about CBD and everything you need to know about it.

Myth #1: CBD Gets You High

A huge reason that some people are hesitant about using CBD products is that many believe it gets you high. CBD does not make you high, and also doesn’t have any sedative effects. You can go about your day as usual when using CBD and you’ll feel an overall sense of relaxation. That isn’t to say that CBD is entirely non-psychoactive, because it does interact with our nervous system to create a change in our mood or behavior. However, those changes do not result in an overall high, but there are therapeutic effects.

Myth #2: CBD Is Addictive

The human body produces similar substances on its own, which is one of the reasons that CBD is not addictive. These substances are known as endogenous cannabinoids, and they do not affect our CB1 (mostly in the brain) and CB2 (mostly in the immune system) receptors, which are affected by THC and not CBD. Therefore, you cannot get addicted to CBD, because our bodies don’t get addicted to substances that are already present.

Myth #3: CBD Isn’t Supported by Science

Science does, in fact, support CBD and many of its uses. We’ve mentioned that CBD has been scientifically linked to helping reduce different forms of anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety. There have also been studies that showcase how CBD can help reduce inflammation, and how CBD can help other disorders including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Most importantly for hair growth, it increases blood circulation around hair follicles and instantly reduces inflammation upon contact with the skin.

Also, by reducing stress and anxiety and improving sleep, it helps lower cortisol levels, which causes both hair loss and weight gain. However, there have been claims that CBD can help cure certain diseases, and we've mentioned that CBD should never be used in place of prescribed medication.

Myth #4: CBD Is a New Thing

It’s understandable why anyone would think that CBD is a modern substance. CBD has grown in popularity as of late, and the trend isn’t dying down any time soon. However, CBD links back to ancient history. Yes, you read that right—ancient history! Archeologists have found evidence of cannabis agriculture dating back to 12,000 years ago. It is believed that in ancient China, hemp was used to treat various illnesses.

Myth #5: CBD Is Entirely Legal

Some state laws put restrictions on buying CBD products, therefore we can’t say it’s entirely legal. When CBD is derived from hemp it is considered legal in all 50 states, however, any CBD containing more than 0.3% THC is considered illegal on the federal level. If you live in a state where marijuana has been legalized, then these restrictions do not apply to you. It’s always important to look into your state’s marijuana laws and the laws of any state of which you travel.
